# Response Writing Standards

## Purpose

When your task involves writing expert responses (rather than evaluating model outputs), this document defines the standards your responses must meet.

## Core Requirements

1. **Accuracy first.** Every factual claim must be correct. If you are uncertain, say so explicitly.
2. **Appropriate depth.** Match the depth of your response to the complexity of the question. Don't over-explain simple questions; don't under-explain complex ones.
3. **Cite when it matters.** For medical, legal, and scientific domains, cite the source or standard you are drawing from.
4. **Hedge appropriately.** Use language like "typically," "in most cases," or "evidence suggests" when the claim is not universal.
5. **No fabrication.** Never invent statistics, citations, or entities. If you don't know, say so.

- Write in clear, professional prose.
- Use headers and lists only when they genuinely aid comprehension.
- Avoid jargon unless the prompt is clearly addressed to a specialist audience.
- Keep responses as concise as accuracy allows.

## Domain-Specific Notes

- **Medicine:** Follow evidence-based medicine conventions. State the level of evidence when relevant.
- **Law:** Specify jurisdiction. Distinguish between what the law says and what courts have held.
- **Science:** Distinguish between established consensus and active research areas.
- **Engineering:** Include units, tolerances, and relevant standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.) where applicable.
